책 소개
A story presented as the diary of the protagonist, Yu Na-ra. In a near-future Korea, where the elderly make up the majority of the population due to low birth rates and an aging population, life is a difficult one, being replaced by younger people and machines. Even her few close relationships are challenging. Even a three-minute phone call with her mother, her only family, is awkward, and her roommate, Elijah, uses her status as a second-generation immigrant, a "publicly recognized socially disadvantaged," to disrupt Nara's mind. In this lonely reality, Nara constantly wonders about the whereabouts of her Aunt Minah, the light of her childhood, who is now unreachable. But even Nara has a dream: to officially settle on Sycamore Island and become an actress. Led by a peculiar figure named Camilla Redner, Sycamore Island is an artificial island created somewhere in the South Pacific. It's a so-called utopia where super-rich seniors from around the world can enjoy luxurious services and enjoy their golden years, while the young people who provide the services can also enjoy fulfilling lives. Then, by chance, Nara receives an unexpected opportunity: a job at Yukasiel, the largest senior welfare facility in the country. Yukasiel has a business agreement with Sycamore Island, so her experience there will be beneficial for her future work there. Nara joins Yukasiel as a counselor, meeting a diverse range of seniors. Will she be able to escape her bleak reality and achieve her dreams on Sycamore, the island of hope? -
